Verbal Founders on the Business and Mistakes Podcast
2 min read
We were guests on the Business and Mistakes podcast. If you are not familiar with it yet, it is Finland's most entertaining business podcast, where entrepreneurs tell their stories straight and without filters. Hosted by Mikael Hugg and Saara Vehoniemi, who combine hard business experience, a relaxed approach, and sharp questions. Neither of them lets guests off easy — and that makes the conversation genuine and engaging.

Our journey in the speaker business
The episode walks through our journey in the speaker business and how Verbal came to be. We talked about how two former competitors (we competed over who was better at sales) eventually became founding partners — and everything that journey has included.
We also reflected on the mishaps and situations entrepreneurship brings. When you work with speakers and hosts and build something new, surprises are constant. Sometimes they make you laugh, sometimes they teach you — and often both. Occasionally they horrify you too.
What we learned and what we talked about
A few big themes came up in the conversation:
-
How Verbal started and what it means to us.
-
How Verbal grew out of unexpected things.
-
Why a good speaker does not sell themselves but serves the audience.
-
What mishaps have happened and what we learned from them.
Because this is the Business and Mistakes podcast, there were of course stories that might not otherwise be told.
-
Mikko recalled his clown-diving career, petrol on his back, and a stunt that nearly went very wrong.
-
Olli revealed why he never answers Mikko's calls.
There was plenty of laughter — perhaps the best sign that the conversation was honest and real.
Why this episode is worth listening to
For us, entrepreneurship and the speaker business at its best is exactly this: successes, mistakes, stories, and continuous learning. If you want to hear what goes on behind the scenes, what lessons we have gathered, and why mistakes can ultimately be worth their weight in gold, this episode is for you.
